March 16, 2003 -- The Olympia Movement for Justice & Peace, and the entire Olympia community, mourn the loss of our beloved sister, daughter, and friend, Rachel Corrie, who was killed today in Gaza by an Israeli army bulldozer as she attempted to protect a Palestinian home from demolition.

We wish to extend our deepest sympathies to the Corrie family. Rachel was a tireless worker for social justice, a compassionate, loving, humble, even shy young woman who, over and over, put aside her own fears to promote peace and human rights, especially for those least able to protect themselves. She is an irreplaceable part of the Olympia community, and will be sorely missed.

June 16, 2003 -- Three months after Rachel's death, her friends and loved ones in Olympia remain shocked and grieved. We are forever changed by her life, as well as her death.

We wish to express our appreciation to the thousands worldwide who have extended condolences and support, and who work to achieve basic human rights for Palestinians and Israelis, and justice for Rachel.

Here in Olympia, numerous organizations and individuals are pursuing these ends: Olympia Movement for Justice & Peace, Olympians for Peace in the Middle East, Justice for Rachel, Go to Rafah Campaign, Fellowship of Reconciliation-Olympia, Sister City Campaign, and many others.
