Peacekeeper Training

From Glen Anderson of Olympia Fellowship of Reconciliation:

On Thursday I learned that the Seattle people who are organizing the NONVIOLENT PEACEFORCE will conduct peacekeeper training in Seattle on SUN DEC 8 and SUN DEC 8. I have known these trainers for a great many years, and I respect them as experienced and skilled. See their announcement in the next paragraph. Who would want to carpool there?
"Basic Training" for “Peacekeepers” is scheduled by the Seattle-based Nonviolent Peaceforce:

NP members have already been serving as Peacekeepers for a variety of recent events such as the Public Hearing sponsored by Hate Free Zone, Scott Ritter's presentation, the Oct 6 rally and march against war in Iraq, and the candlelight procession to St. Mark's. At the last NP meeting we did some brainstorming about the kinds of situations where local peacekeeping could be a real value to the community and the variety of peacekeeping roles. We then decided to move ahead at developing a local peacekeeping team that would undertake more extensive training to serve as a resource for promoting and maintaining nonviolence. Vivien Sharples and Rosy Betz-Zall, both excellent and very experienced trainers, have agreed to develop a two day "Basic Training" for Peacekeepers. The training will be held on two consecutive Sundays, December 1 and December 8 from 10:30 to 5:30 (Seattle location to be announced). The training is not limited to Nonviolent Peaceforce people, but priority will be given to those who are interested in being a part of an on-going Peacekeeping Team.

More specialized trainings in compassionate listening, legal observing, emergency first aid, and other topics will also be developed. [Also please consider attending the trainings given by Rosy Betz-Zall on "Nonviolent Action" (Sunday, Oct 27) and by Jorge Rubio on "Nonviolent Communication" (Nov 9 & 10). These will be excellent preparation for anyone considering peacekeeping.]
