Three anti-war protesters arrested at Port of Tacoma SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/6420AP_WA_Iraq_Stryker_Protest.html Monday, March 5, 2007 Three anti-war protesters arrested at Port of Tacoma THE ASSOCIATED PRESS TACOMA, Wash. -- Anti-war protesters plan to demonstrate on an I-Five overpass in Tacoma during the afternoon commute to draw attention to the shipment of Fort Lewis equipment through the Port of Tacoma. A protest leader, Olympia City Councilman T-J Johnson, says the Army has been "sneaking under cover of darkness" since Friday night. Three anti-war protesters were arrested overnight at the Port of Tacoma. They were protesting the loading of Stryker vehicles and other equipment that will be shipped to Iraq for the deployment of a Fort Lewis Stryker brigade. The three were accused of assault and led away in handcuffs. Protesters say one of them also was shot with a rubber bullet. Fort Lewis said in a news release the vehicles are being moved in groups of about 25 vehicles in non-peak hours, under escort of military and local police. Last May protesters clashed with police at a similar shipment from the Port of Olympia. Johnson says plans for more protests in Olympia forced the Army to move to Tacoma. Today's protest is planned between four and six on the Pacific Avenue overpass on I-Five at Tacoma.
