Olympia activist arrested at port The Olympian May 23, 2006 http://159.54.227.3/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060523/ NEWS01/60523043&SearchID=73245473992545 A 37-year-old Olympia man who runs a local Web site that has played a watchdog role over law enforcement was arrested early Tuesday at the Port of Olympia after trespassing onto the property, said a county official. Andrew C. Hendricks, known as Drew Hendricks both on his Web site, Olympia Cop Watch and the local blogging community OlyBlog, struggled with a guard at the front gate around 3:15 a.m. and then stepped into a 'no trespass' zone inside the facility when a deputy arrested him for second-degree burglary, Thurston County sheriff's Chief Criminal Deputy Dan Kimball said. A charge of second-degree burglary was made in this case because Hendricks had entered a fenced compound with intent to commit a crime, he said. Normally, this charge is applied to burglaries of enclosed businesses. Hendricks was trying to close and lock the front gates to the port, he said. In light of the movement of Stryker vehicles through the port today, this may have been a symbolic gesture, Kimball said. Hendricks had placed a bicycle lock on one of the two front gates and tripped a breaker which shorted out the lights inside the guard's hut, Kimball said. The guard confronted him, and Hendricks maintained his right to enter the property and close the second gate, he said. At that point, the struggle ensued, he said. Deputies later found a second lock inside his backpack. There has been an extra security presence at the port because of the military activity this week, Kimball said.
