Hatred has no place here Editorial, The Olympian March 02, 2006 Once again, a band of racists has used the cover of darkness to toss disgusting literature on the lawns and driveways of unsuspecting South Sound residents. Regrettably, the sprinkling of racist literature throughout the community is becoming commonplace. That doesn’t mean people should accept these deplorable acts. It’s OK for offended residents to express their outrage. That sends the message to those who spew their hatred that their actions are unacceptable and do not in any way represent commonly held values in this community. The racists used rock-filled bags and messages taped to Easter eggs to ask, “Whitey: are you tired of the government openly encouraging, in the name of diversity, the death of the white race?” The fliers promote a Nazi rally planned at the Capitol in July. How fitting that the spewers of this hatred do their cowardly work under the cover of darkness. Their messages cannot withstand the illumination of daylight and rational thought. Tumwater officers scurried around one neighborhood to collect the litter in hopes of preventing an unsuspecting child from picking up one of the messages. And therein lies the greatest threat posed by these incidents. Adults can recognize the racist literature for what it is. Children should not be exposed to this kind of revulsion. At least it provides parents an opportunity to talk to their kids about the bad people in this world. http://159.54.227.3/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060302/OPINION01/60302015&SearchID=73240282743482
