Neo-Nazi rally met by protesters, police on Capitol steps April 02, 2006 THE OLYMPIAN About 10 members of the National Socialist Movement, a neo-Nazi group, rallied today on the steps of the Capitol, where they were met by more than 100 counter-protesters around 1 p.m. No one was arrested or injured. After about 30 minutes of angry verbal exchanges between the two sides, troopers from the Civil Disturbance Action Team arrived and escorted the neo-Nazis off the Capitol Campus, said Sgt. John Sager of the Washington State Patrol. No one reported any physical confrontations, he said. The National Socialist Movement informed troopers of its plan to rally in Sylvester Park downtown, but the neo-Nazi group instead went to the steps of the Capitol, Sager said. Many of the counter-protesters had walked to the Capitol from a planned counter-rally at Heritage Park, a few blocks away from Sylvester Park. The protesters on the Capitol steps chanted “Out of Olympia” over the neo-Nazi group’s loudspeaker. About eight members of the National Socialist Movement rallied in Olympia in January, where they also were outnumbered by counter-protesters. Many of the same people from both sides appeared for Sunday’s event. http://www.theolympian.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060402/NEWS01/60402064
