Three arrested today at port protest The Olympian November 11, 2007 http://www.theolympian.com/breakingnews/story/268547.html Three people were arrested and two others were sprayed with pepper spray this morning as protests of military-cargo shipments returning through the Port of Olympia continued. About 8:45 a.m., protestors began marching back and forth across Franklin Street at the Market Street intersection. And as 18-wheelers towing cargo began rolling down Market Street about five minutes later, two protestors laid down in the road, creating a human blockade. Police officers sprayed both with pepper spray. Another caravan of vehicles began leaving the port about 9:45 a.m., prompting protestors to run out ahead of the vehicles. Police arrested at least one man who witnesses said was in the road and later arrested two others. Protests at the port began Tuesday. On Saturday, 12 people were arrested. So far, the protest Sunday has been quieter than Saturday, police said. "That's certainly what we'd prefer to see," Olympia Police administrative services manager Dick Machlan said. Between 30 and 40 officers are working today as a result of the protests, Machlan said. Olympia police are getting additional support from Lacey, Tumwater and Thurston County law enforcement agencies.
