Anti-war activist arrested again, this time at city council meeting PAUL SAND The News Tribune Last updated: March 6th, 2007 11:56 PM (PST) http://www.thenewstribune.com/news/updates/story/6403472p-5710112c.html Tacoma police arrested an anti-war activist at a City Council meeting Tuesday night after he refused repeated requests to wrap up his remarks during the meeting’s public comments forum, a police spokesman said. This is the second time this week the man has been arrested, said police spokeman Mark Fulghum. He was one of three people arrested early Monday in the Port of Tacoma in a protest against the Army’s movement of Stryker brigade vehicles. The man, who is from Olympia, decried his Monday arrest in his remarks before he ran over his alloted three minutes, said Rob McNair-Huff, City of Tacoma spokesman. He was asked twice to sum up his comments, but refused, he said. After the third warning, police arrested him on charges of trespassing and disrupting a city council meeting, said police spokesman Fulghum. Despite the arrest, protests continued at the port late Tuesday, where at least three military convoys moved into a fenced parking area without incident. About 25 antiwar protesters were on hand, along with at least twice that many police officers in riot gear. The activists remain in the area assigned to them, chanting and holding signs as the Army convoys moved past. Originally published: March 6th, 2007 08:14 PM (PST) © Copyright 2007 Tacoma News, Inc.
