Council member T.J. Johnson was arrested Sunday afternoon while protesting the shipment of Army vehicles and equipment to Iraq. Johnson was among 15 others who were arrested for crossing a barricade. Eight others were arrested after they took backpacks or bags into an area where those items were banned. Early Sunday morning a woman was arrested after police said she ignored instructions to stop her vehicle and drove into an off-limits area. Eight people were arrested in protests during the previous several days. About 60 people participated in the protests Sunday afternoon. The Army is shipping gear from Fort Lewis for a Stryker brigade that is being sent to Iraq next month. Johnson also was arrested in protests against shipments from Fort Lewis to Iraq last May.
