Subject: EMERGENCY MEETING RE:WAR SHIPMENTS, SUBMARINE, MAY30 RALLY Date: Thu, 20 May 2004 15:42:31 -0700 From: Larry Mosqueda From: Lucilene Whitesell and Larry Mosqueda, People who met recently to plan the Rally originally scheduled for this Saturday (and discussed below) decided to change the date: DATE OF THE RALLY HAS BEEN CHANGED TO SUNDAY, MAY 30 AT SUNDAY AT NOON AT SYLVESTER PARK. In addition to the issues that were to be focused upon, 1) Stopping the Torture 2) Stopping the War and Occupations, we also have 3) The visit of the nuclear submarine that is scheduled to visit the Port of Olympia from May 30 to June 3. And what makes this an emergency is 4) the decision by the Port and the Army to start shipping war trucks and other war vehicles to Iraq, out of Olympia, starting today. Larry visited there today and it looks like Death is being exported literally across the fence from the Farmers Market. Therefore there will be an emergency meeting of the OMJP and others: TOMORROW, FRIDAY, MAY 21 AT 7PM AT THE OLYMPIA COMMUNITY CENTER, ROOM 204 IN DOWNTOWN OLYMPIA We realize that this is short notice but these Submarine and War-Port issues have literally arose over the past few days. Many people are upset about bringing the war home to Olympia and this is an opportunity to do some planning and actions. This weekend would be a good opportunity to take some actions at the port and the Farmers Market. (Educational flyering, etc.) The agenda for the meeting will be 1) The War Port, 2) The Submarine issue (the Olympia City council has planned a public meeting for next Tuesday) and 3) the planning for the Rally on May 30 and of course, issues that are raised by those present. P.S. This meeting takes on a special importance since the OMJP has decide to use its next regularly scheduled meeting time of Wednesday the 26th for an educational event on CAFTA at Traditions at 7PM. That will be the subject of a separate email.
