Supporting LT Watada: Fort Lewis 24 June 06

Supporters of Lt. Watada from Everett, Seattle, Tacoma, Olympia and other communities throughout Western Washington converged today on Ft. Lewis's DuPont I-5 overpass with banners, flags, signs—and enthusiasm.

We were 20-25 concerned citizens, and members of Stand Up Seattle, United for Peace Pierce County, Veterans For Peace, and the Olympia Movement for Justice & Peace.

Truckers were especially supportive. And there were at least two intriguing instances wherein a male driver flashed the one-finger while his female passenger flashed the peace sign.

The traveling public supported our message more than 3:1, judging from the number of cheers, honks, thumbs up, flashing headlights, two-fingered peace salutes, and the "rock-and-roll" sign (I had to ask my younger compatriots what that one meant!), vs hostile thumbs down and one-fingered gestures.
